NFL 2009 Season Will Be Crucial for Campbell
Which variety of Jason Campbell is it Redskins football lovers should check for this year? The quarterback that is maligned and practically out of the sphere? Or is Campbell the next coming of Doug Williams, as Clinton Portis has so powerfully stated lately?
Campbell’s performance is what the upcoming year is all going to revolve around. Clinton Portis might close out this year with about eleven thousand rush yards for his career, aligning himself for Hall of Fame contemplation with nearly 3 or 4 solid seasons remaining in his playing days.
It will not matter.
Malcolm Kelly could turn out to be one of the leading youthful receivers in the game of football this season, capable of receiving parallels to Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson by season’s end.
It will not mean much.
Brian Orakpo could be the next version of Lawrence Taylor, doing damage on the left side of the full NFC East.
It won’t make a difference.
The only thing holds importance is that the team comes out on top in no less than ten games, and that Jason Campbell is the most high-ranking individual in each one of those expected 10 wins.
Never mind the fact that he went half a year in 2008 without an INT, it was all about the wonderful Clinton Portis during that stretch. When things went sour for the team, it was not Clinton Portis that took the criticism.
It was Jason Campbell, who wasn’t the sole player with scaled back output during the swoon, but was the sole receiver of the talk radio and print media drama that came after.
Most people are in Jason Campbell’s defense, and not a soul heads up that corner’s cheers more so than I do.
However from a neutral standpoint, there is a fine line between triumph and tragedy for Campbell this impending season, and nothing else Washington may do or is capable of doing will surpass the stability he must exhibit from week one and beyond.
