Women’s Sport: Tennis And Its Famed Players
What a competitive game women’s tennis is now turning out to be. Over the last 30 years the women’s game has just gone from strength to strength.
Women seem to be a lot stronger and faster in the sport lately. Here is my opinion of who I think are the top 7 players since 1980 in women’s tennis, in reverse order.
7. Venus Williams, her achievements in her Grand Slams and her Wimbledon wins just go to show what an immense talent this woman is, and with her rivalry with her sister Serena this woman just seems to grow each year.
6. Justine Henin, probably the most potent women’s player at her peak, she did retire early last year but has since announced a comeback. Lets see if she can dominate both the Williams sisters as she had done before her retirement.
5. Monica Seles. She was only young when she won her 9 Grand slams but unfortunately was stabbed in an unfortunate incident. Since then she has not been able to recreate former glories.
4. Chris Evert; Chris managed to win 18 Grand slams and many majors in her long illustrious career; she was most prominent in the late Seventies and early Eighties.
3. Serena Williams: another powerhouse Tennis player, Serena can go toe to toe with any women’s player around today, a real force to be reckoned with in today’s tennis.
2. Martina Navratilova, this was tough. Martina has had a fantastic career and just like Chris Evert has amassed a glorious 19 Grand slams, as well as numerous other titles. I was thinking of her as my number one choice but she was just pipped for that position.
1. Steffi Graf, the number 1 spot just has to go to Steffi Graf. This German powerhouse just seemed to take everything in her stride as she managed to win an amazing 22 Grand slams in her astonishing career.
