Singer Rihanna unveiled the video for her new single, “Rude Boy,” this week. In the Melina Matsoukas- directed video, she appears in several skimpy costumes and against backdrops aimed to remind viewers of eighties comic book lettering and the imagery of artist Jean Michel Basquiat.

“It’s completely different from any other video I’ve shot before,” Rihanna said. “A lot of my videos are really dark and edgy and tough. ‘Rude Boy’ is more playing along the lines from my roots. We used a lot of color, but also the costumes were very Jamaican dance-hall queen type.”

Still, the story is enough to worry friends of Rihanna. One unnamed source tells Now: “A guy who’s been accused of aggression towards his girlfriends is the last person Ri-Ri should be hooking up with. At the least, it shows he’s the stormy type and she doesn’t need that.”

She said of the budding romance: “It’s new, and it’s fun, and it’s nothing too serious, you know. I don’t want anything that’s going on to take up so much of my energy and time right now in a bad way. I just want to have fun, and that’s what it’s about.”

At the moment, the singer says she’s putting most of that energy into her upcoming act featuring Ke$ha, the Last Girl on Earth tour, which is set to begin in Seattle on July 2. Rihanna added that things felt good between the couple after that vacation in Mexico last January. Kemp previously denied any links to the singer, saying: “I can’t get distracted by that. When it’s time to play baseball, that’s my job. No distractions.
